The role of the church assistant/usher is an important one and leaves one with a rewarding feeling of service to St. John the Baptist Church. Our purpose is to enhance the spirit of worship for the congregation by providing good order that contributes to the spiritual well-being of the worshipper.
The ushers assist at the "pangari" or candlestand silently and courteously greet those who arrive at church. We represent the parish and must be ready to answer questions and assist parishioners to the pews. We attend to the lighted candles and extiguish them as necessary. We also direct parishioners and let them know when they are allowed to enter the Nave, assist with Holy Communion, dismissal and passing trays.
This ministry is open to anyone, man or woman, young or old, who wants to assist on Sunday mornings or during any special service. All that is needed is to contact Dan Korbakis at (847) 827-5510 and we will be glad to have you join us.
